Florence, Tom and Mark completed the 2mile open water swim in London’s Serpentine – held in Hyde Park. Both kids had mixed feelings about doing the race describing it as “one of Dads mad ideas”. Florence and Tom were regular members of the St Anselms swim squad and had a good ability of swimming, however the whole family favoured breastroke, which ideally isn’t the best stroke for open water in a wetsuit. However with some one to one coaching RFS developed their frontcrawl and convinced the kids to do a mixture of both frontcrawl and breastroke. Mark couldn’t swim frontcrawl at all and now has all the right foundation to continouing to improve his frontcrawl. Mark and family have started coming to the High Peak Triathlon club, where they worked the fitness and endurance side of the challenge.
Florence was the fastest on the day completing the swim in 1 hour 20mins. Swimming was a challenge for them and the kids never excepted to be able to do it this time last year, but with hard work and specific coaching they all achieved their goals.
Mark won a coveted London Classics medal for completing the London Marathon, Ride 100 and the Swim Serpentine in the past three years.
Well done all.
