Possibly one of our most inspirational clients, Pam Oliver, prepares for the ETU European Sprint Championships in Dusseldorf on the 24-25th June.
Pam started training with us around 2 years ago, Pam didn’t have much confidence on her road bike, so we provided her with a few skills sessions and one to one road sessions, After this she was riding and never looked back. Pam just fell in love with the road bike, we helped her select a bike suitable for racing that was specifically fitted to ensure she felt comfortable and relaxed on the bike, while being able to get the power down. As expected Pam at 69 years old proved to be one pocket rocket, she smashes all the local triathlons and is very often seen on the local time trails.
Pam swims at High Peak Triathlon Club, where we put her through her paces at swimming, Pam was a swimming teacher in the past and we do love reminding her of all the technique tips, she probably gave out time and time again. Pam’s swimming is steady strong and consistent, providing her with a great start at triathlons. Open water took some time for Pam to fully enjoy, but she was determined to tackle her nerves head on. Pam has two bike plans per week to keep her bike work specific and focused to her goals. Running is carefully balanced to prevent injuries and ensure we don’t aggravate her arthritis. Pam works hard every week, never complains and is an inspiration to us all, we can honestly say we hope to be this fit ourselves at 69. The course at Dusseldorf starts with an open water swim followed by a fast flowing course. We are currently completing Pam’s training to ensure she is at peak fitness for the event. Don’t ever let anything stop you achieving your goals, especially age, Pam rocks and we wish her every ounce of luck, although with the correct training she has had, luck is not what she has to rely on.
