RunRide Cannock Chase- The first MTB ride of the season proved to be successful, sealing my first win of the season. The conditions were mud and wet, just how I like them. The course was very busy at first so I just made my way through the crowd steadily putting in some strong run efforts on the tricky section that were just too congested to ride. The race went really well and I held the lead by the first lap. I was pleased with my performance overall and it was great practice for my up and coming Xterra season. It felt great to be wearing the Velobici Van Guilder Thermal Jersey on the MTB perfect for the chilly conditions. Top weekend all round.
Denis Sherwood has been a client for several years, first coming to use for swimming lessons, then Ironman training. Denis achievements have always been for personal reason, he used to be at the back of the race, and just finishing because he wanted to and cos he could. Denis works silly hours and didn’t always eat correctly. Over the past ½ a year he has managed to lose significant amount of weight, he looks a new man, Denis is a chef by trade and OMG does he know how to cook, that was the problem, he knew what not to eat but seriously if you’ve tried his dishes, you will always find that ‘Little excuse’, anyhow he knuckled down and shed the extra weight which in turn has complimented his training and results. Denis has steadily been working himself up the racing field, also catching friends and team mates that once didn’t think he would ever be able to catch or beat them. Denis just this weekend put in a best performance in the Retford Half Marathon of 1hour 32mins. This is more than just a triathlete’s time, this is a highly respectable time in the running world. Denis has achieved this time purely by hard work and dedication. Denis sets a goal, works hard for it, and achieves it . He is the sort of person that inspires us on an everyday basis, a normal guy a nice guy making the most of his opportunities. Denis has a busy calendar this year and with cycle and swim plans from Results Fitness he is looking forward to the triathlon season getting started.
Kenny Skelton also completed the Retford Half Marathon, with a totally different objective, this was purely a training race, there was no pressure and no expectations. Kenny finished in 1 hour 58 but used the race to find out where he struggled, what he needs to develop to increase his overall endurance, with the aim of completing the Ironman in the middle of summer. Kenny is clearly a family man and had his two daughters supporting him all the way round the course. Kenny only learnt to swim last year and then completed the Channel Swim as a Relay in 2016, giving him the belief and motivation to look into doing an Ironman. Kenny is training around work and family life with RFS, we provide Kenny with structured sessions to suit his lifestyle, we have no doubt Kenny will be ready and comfortable for his Ironman challenge in the summer.
